International Union for the Conservation of Nature
The International Union for the Conservation of Nature will be holding its World Conservation Congress in Jeju, South Korea from 6 to 15 September this year. Once again, Calliope will be supplying the 50 interpreters needed to facilitate the Congress discussions and debates among some 8000 participants.
The IUCN’s World Conservation Congress is the world’s number one conservation event and this year the theme for the Congress is Nature +. Delegates will be looking at the ties that bind humans and nature in order to try and understand them better and to realize how fragile nature is and how its survivability can be enhanced. The discussions will be structured around several thematic areas, namely nature +climate, nature + resources, nature + energy and nature + the economy.
Following the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20), it is now up to the IUCN as an agent of change, to take up the cudgels for conservation and diversity and offer the world a new platform for dialogue and discussion, sharing and exchange.
For Calliope, as mediators of culture and diversity it is only natural that we should be part of this endeavor.
