The European Maritime Safety Agency, established in Lisbon in 2006, prepares, proposes and oversees all regulations on maritime safety in Europe. It is vital to orderly application of European maritime safety policy and works to promote international cooperation. It aims to reduce accidents at sea, oil spills, pollution from ships and loss of human life.

In October 2009 EMSA selected Calliope to provide simultaneous interpretation at all its conferences. It was the first time it had asked a consultant interpreter, Calliope member Laurence Corréard, to help establish its requirements and recruit interpreters who were genuine professionals. EMSA is enthusiastic about the result:  “The service provided by Ms Corréard has always been impeccable. Her in-depth knowledge of the interpreting market, her close attention to detail, her efficiency, professional demeanour and people skills have transformed our meetings.”  The Administrative Board, Executive Director and meeting organizers value the relationship of trust they have established with their consultant interpreter as they are acutely aware of the difference a professional and customized interpreting service makes.
