The team of interpreters should be made put together in the light
of the conference languages (both active
languages into which the interpreters will work and passive
languages, the languages the delegates may speak).
The team will then be selected for their proficiency in the field
under discussion, and on the basis of the length of the programme.
Teams are constituted to ensure direct
interpretation from the source language into the target
language, which can prove complex when several languages are spoken
at the conference.
In general, teams should comprise two interpreters per language.
Ideally, a team will be made up of interpreters who work into their
native language from all the source languages spoken at the meeting.
This is the only arrangement that guarantees accurate and elegant
expression.
