Who are we?



	If you have never used interpreting services, here is some practical information that will help you plan your event.
		Interpreters must be able to hear distinctly what is said. This cannot always be taken for granted , due to unsuitable technical equipment.
		Interpreters change over (i.e. take turns to translate) every half-hour or so, but must be able to follow the proceedings even when they are resting. If they are unable to interpret the speaker directly (because he speaks a rare language) they will have to be able to hear and use the interpretation provided by a colleague (we call this taking the colleague on relay) so the equipment will have to be of sufficient quality.
		Interpreters should only be heard by people who need interpretation. The latter will need headsets of good quality for this purpose. However, the interpretation must not disturb colleagues or other participants, which is why soundproof booths are required.
		The vast majority of presentations are made with the help of screens displaying figures, acronyms and text, and it is much more difficult to follow a presentation without visual aids. Interpreters must be able to clearly see the screen and the speakers. The positioning of booth(s) and equipment is therefore crucial.
		Interpreters are largely dependent on you for their preparation, and will always ask you for documentation in advance. To help them understand a topic and prepare glossaries, it is important that they receive the following in good time: agenda for the meeting or conference, speeches, articles, minutes of previous meetings, etc. Interpreters also need time to read and prepare speeches which are not only drafted with great care and attention to detail, but are often read at speed. Interpretation can only be of high quality if speeches are prepared beforehand.
