The International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC)

AIIC was founded in 1953 and is the only global professional association of conference interpreters. It has 2,800 members in 90 countries.

The association

  • applies a rigorous admission procedure that confirms the candidate's language knowledge, skill and experience;
  • sets standards of professional practice;
  • works on developing ISO standards for fixed and mobile booths;
  • works on defining copyright and is involved in efforts to obtain official recognition of conference interpreting as a profession;
  • negotiates agreements governing the terms and conditions of the interpreters who work in the various international organizations (UN, EU etc).
